Swirls of silvers and grays surround the shimmery red center of this mesmerizing heart. This unusual “stone” is called Fordite, cut and polished from rare chunks of hardened paint from the automotive industry. The heart is framed by twisted silver and suspended on a twisted silver rope chain to complete this beautiful and unique pendant. The chain measures 15 1/2” long with a 1 1/2” extension.

Fordite, also known as Detroit agate, Motor City agate,[1] paint rock, or paint slag,[2] is a lapidarist term for polished pieces of finely layered paint masses from automobile factories. The masses consist of automotive paint which has hardened sufficiently to be cut and polished.[3][2] It was formed from the buildup of layers of enamel paint slag on tracks and skids on which cars were painted with acrylic lacquer, which have been baked numerous times.
